Sports Journalism Today was founded as an appreciation for sports journalists in online and traditional print media. We are a medium for social and professional commentary and academic discussion. Sports Journalism Today is not journalism; we are a champion and promoter of journalism.

We honor the written word. We value the feature, the column, the game story, the notebook, the blog and non-traditional enterprise pieces. We celebrate the time and effort it takes to cultivate sources, to labor over leads and transitions, and to write and rewrite stories until they’re good enough to send to our editors and, ultimately, readers.

We shine spotlights on industry trends. We ask questions when stories fall below industry standards or the personal standards of an individual journalist.

Although we give credit to all sports media – written and broadcast – we are devoted to the written word and will strive to showcase its highlights, improve its shortcomings and ensure its survival.
