Dave SchwartzDave Schwartz is director of scholastic programs for the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication and an adjunct instructor, teaching the Sports Writing section of the school’s Specialized Reporting and Writing courses. He also has taught Print and Online Publication Integration, and Multimedia Special Projects.

Before joining the university Dave spent three years as sports editor of the Northwest Herald in suburban Chicago. During his tenure Dave’s A-level staff earned national Top 10 status from the Associated Press Sports Editors in the Daily and Sunday categories three times, as well as the Triple Crown (Daily, Sunday, Special Section) in 2007.

As a sportswriter Dave served as a beat writer for the Cubs and White Sox, college football and basketball, and preps. He also contributed to coverage of the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and local professional golf events, including the 1999 PGA Championship, 2000 U.S. Women’s Open and numerous Western Opens.

Dave spent the early part of his career working part time for The Sporting News and serving internships with the Dallas Morning News, Chicago Tribune and Arizona Republic.
