NYT editor: no elimination of sports
Bill Keller, executive editor of the New York Times, wrote in a recent memo to employees that there was no validity to some outsiders’ suggestions that his publication eliminate or drastically reduce the size of its sports section.
Wrote Keller, via internal memo sent to Nieman Journalism Lab: “One of the armchair experts quoted by the public editor wondered why we don’t eliminate the Sports section. I’d like to be as clear as possible: none of those things is on the table.”
He went on to cite the NYT’s recent New York Yankees World Series coverage of an example of how much the Times’ readers rely on the section.
